Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website, or web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid (organic) search results

As an Internet Marketing Strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience.

Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the index activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of back-links, and inbound links is another SEO tactic.

First, the title of the page must include relevant information about the page. In the previous example, your home page might have the title, “Mary’s Shoe Store – Orthopedic Shoes and Insoles.” The title is the most important part of SEO, since it tells the search engine exactly what the page is about. Within Mary’s home page, it would be helpful to repeat the words “orthopedic” and “orthopedic shoes” a few times, since search engines also scan the text of the pages they index.

What Are Local Citations ?

LOCAL CITATIONS: Local Citations are defined as “mentions” of your business name and address on other web pages, even if there is no link to your website. Citations are a key component of the ranking algorithms of the major search engines. Other factors being equal, businesses with a greater number of citations will probably rank higher than businesses with fewer citations.

Citations from well-established and well-indexed portals help increase the degree of certainty the search engines have about your business’s contact information and categorization.

Citations are particularly important in less-competitive niches because search engines rely heavily on whatever information they can find!

Citations also validate that a business is part of a community. It’s hard for someone to fake membership in a chamber of commerce or a city or county business index, or to be written about in a local online newspaper or popular blog. Citations (and links) from these kinds of websites can dramatically improve your Local search engine rankings.

What Are META TAGS ?

META TAGS:These HTML tags can really distinguish your site from the rest of your competition. The META tags that most search engines read are the description and keywords tags. Within the description tags, you should type a brief description of the Web page. It should be similar but more detailed than the title. Within the keywords tags, you should list 5-20 words that relate to the content of the page. Using META tags can significantly boost your search engine ranking.
